Now rewritten and in GNOME CVS, the Fast User Switch Applet has reached version 1.0.0. It is 100% bug-free and has no needed features or improvements (making CVS kinda pointless, but hey :-)).

Two questions:
Every user I click on that isn’t logged in just takes me to a new GDM login screen (not with the user preselected or anything); the same as clicking on the “Login Screen” option. Is this the intended behaviour?
Secondly, all the “system” users are there as well. Isn’t there a way to just list all “normal” users, like the GDM face browser does?
Otherwise, this looks very promising. Now just to create a rotating desktop cube when switching, like OS X does. đ

Yes, there is unfortunately no way at present to tell GDM what user to use.

Well, it should be doing that already. What file did you pass to the –with-gdm-config configure flag?
I didn’t pass anything, because I didn’t know I was supposed to pass anything. I have rebuilt the applet using –with-gdm-config=/etc/gdm/gdm.conf, and it only displays the relevant users now. Thank you!
Sorry, I’ll add better instructions to the README for the next release.
